It only took 15 years! But here it is in all its glory: Instagram photo number 1,000. For relevant background, I did mention earlier that this was coming 🙂

I was recently in Tua, Portugal — a small village on the Douro River. This is an image I made near the mouth of the Tua River where it meets the Douro. I made this image of the N212 bridge at Ponte do Tua at about 9:00 on 26 July 2025 while the morning light was still dramatic (history and other details here).
I bothered to make the picture because, on this calm, quiet morning in this nice morning light, the scene of this bridge reminded me of documentary photos of infrastructure from the middle part of the 20th century.
The first lesson of documentary photography is take the photo of whatever it is. The second is to record the details (e.g. my opening paragraph). Congratulations! You are now a documentary photographer. There’s a little more to it. So more coming soon.

The summer salt production season has arrived. Aveiro, Portugal usually enjoys many sunny, warm days during the summer (generally not hot). This video shows care for the traditional equipment.
Here’s another of my travel & culture videos I produce for GMP!TV.
I’ve been doing a little revamping of my whole life on the web. My professional site is now eyewitness.pt. And my e-mail address is there now, too. Rhetorica has gone back to being a rhetoric blog. The Frame by Frame mission remains the same. In other news, I’m getting very close to my 1,000th published photo on Instagram. And work continues on my documentary films Os Marnotos and Gigantes Verdes.
